DISTANCE 以「隔擋、隔絕」作為核心概念、以「燈光」作為媒介，提供在人們在辦公空間中調節、製造距離感的可能性，讓使用者得以在既定的空間中主動為自己創造舒適的環境條件，提升在辦公空間中工作的品質。

How can we provide people in the given office space with the possibility of adjusting and creating a sense of distance to improve the quality of working in an office space?

議題
Issue

距離感是人與人之間互動關係的要素之一。距離感的增強與削弱可以調節我們與他人互動連結的多寡，而恰當的距離感可以為我們營造合適的空間條件。

對此，我們選擇了「難以拿捏交流時機與距離」的開放式辦公空間。然而台灣辦公空間為使空間使用效率提高，往往都會採取緊密布局，讓上班族難以利用空間的留白為自己創造一可以提供隱私感、或是容許自己不受干擾的獨立空間，從而造成在辦公環境中容易感到壓迫或不自在。

he sense of distance is one of the significant elements of the interaction between people.

With the problem of the hard decision whether interact with people or not, we chose open offices as our scenario. However, Taiwanese office space often adopts a tight layout in order to improve the efficiency of space use, which makes it difficult for workers to use the blank space to create an independent space for themselves, making people feel pressure or discomfort when in the office.

設計解法
Solution

我們將範圍鎖定於以個人工作為主、但有交流與討論需求、空間功能分界較不顯著的開放式辦公空間，並將「辦公空間中的距離感需求」情境定義為：(1)自主調節互動關係、(2)劃分個人空間，分別對應Vague和Edge燈具。

We set the scope to the open space, which focuses on personal working, but still has a need for communication and discussion, and defines the situation of "the need for a sense of distance in the office " as:(1)Dividing Personal Space　(2)Adjusting Interactive Relationships, corresponding to “Vague” and “Edge” respectively.

Vague
自主調節互動關係

以辦公室常見的桌上型隔板作為載體，運用燈光與布料的交互作用，影響隔板的可透視度，藉由透視程度的增減來控制旁人的存在感多寡，也因此形成距離感的變化。

"Vague" uses the desktop partition as the carrier, regulating the perspective of the partition through the interaction between the light and the cloth. The change of perspective will affect the presence of others, thus forming a difference in the sense of distance.

Vague使用紗質布料與自然色光相互搭配，讓隔板得以藉由光與布料的交互效果，為使用者呈現出與旁人之間不同的存在感，更甚產生相應的距離感。

同時，運用互動形式的開關燈手勢，引導使用者藉由肢體上的動作來帶出心態變化藉由將隔板扳離另一片隔板來代表增加距離、切斷互動；將隔板推近另一片隔板來代表減少距離、接受互動。

"Vague" uses translucent fabrics and natural shades. Through the interaction of light and fabric, the partition presents a different sense of existence between users and others and further generates a corresponding sense of distance.

Meanwhile, its light switch method can guide the user to bring out psychological changes with physical movements.

當 Vague 隔板被使用者闔上時

隔板布料在沒有燈光的情況下只具備半透明的遮擋效用，因此，兩邊的人可感受到彼此較高的存在感、讓與旁人的距離感減弱，開啟彼此的互動連結。

When "Vague" is closed,The partition only has a translucent visual effect when there is no light, so you can feel the higher presence of others, reduce the sense of distance from others, and open interactive connections.

當 Vague 隔板被使用者打開時

分離的角度越大燈光越亮，燈光作用之下隔板布料的可透視度會降低，呈現完全遮擋的效果，即會讓使用者感受不到對方的存在感、產生較強的距離感，形成切斷兩人之間互動可能性的狀態。

When "Vague" is opened,The greater the separation angle of the partitions, the brighter the light will be, and the transparency of the partition fabric will be reduced. Therefore, it is difficult for users to feel the presence of others, create a strong sense of distance, Interrupt the possibility of interaction between people.

Edge
劃分個人空間

採無實體的形式為使用者提供個人空間的邊界，以燈罩的造型配合燈光設置，運用光營造區域邊界，為自己創造暫時性的個人領地，以邊界的存在與否定義自己與他人之間接觸與互動的可能性。

"Edge" provides users a boundary of personal space with the usage of lights. Defining the possibility of interaction between people through the existence of the light edge.

Edge燈具組以燈罩造型引導並限制光的走向，為使用者打造由「光」構成的個人界線。並且以人的動作姿態作為設計意象，將使用者就坐低頭欲開始個人作業、以及抬頭站起離開此區域的肢體型態反應於燈具上下扳動的動作之中，透過以燈具的姿態表徵使用者型態與態度的方式，連結人的需求、燈具存在意義、以及環境條件。

The "Edge" lamps series guides and limits the direction of light with the shape of the lampshade, creating a personal boundary composed of "light" for users. Additionally, we take the user's postures as a design image by representing it with the forms of the lamps.

Edge I

適用於高腳桌情境

高腳桌之個人區域之劃分以側向為主。
Edge I 透過在桌面上顯現一直線光條以提示人們個人領域「邊緣」的界線。

The division of the personal area on the high table is mainly lateral. Edge I reminds people of the "line" of their personal edges by displaying a linear light on the desktop.

Edge II

適用於共用大桌情境

共用桌之個人區域劃分需同時兼顧側向與對向。
Edge II 透過在桌面上顯現一90度光照區域以提示人們個人領域「面」的界線。

The personal area division of the share table needs to consider both lateral and opposite directions. Edge II reminds people of the "surface" of their personal edges by displaying a 90-degree light area on the desktop.
